Conveyancing – A Changing Landscape

The Society of Licensed Conveyancers Annual Conference 2017
In Association with The Bold Legal Group

Hosted by Kate Faulkner
Wednesday 15th November 2017
This year’s conference, in association with the Bold Legal Group, will be held at The Riverside Centre, Derby.
Following on from the success of last year’s event, we are delighted that Kate Faulkner will
be our host and it is a must for all licensed conveyancers.
The agenda includes:
•The Government to present on DCLG’s Call for Evidence on Improving the home buying and
selling process–the output from this could have a significant impact on the future of conveyancing (remember HIPs which came out of the last such review)
•The Competition and Markets Authority to present on what they will demand of lawyers in respect of transparency in delivering legal services in the future. In tandem with the DCLG exercise this could also have a major impact on our profession. The SLC and Bold Legal Group have already done a lot of work on a potential solution for conveyancers that we believe is balanced and proportionate and we will be demonstrating this at the Conference–your input is vital to the long-term shape and development of this solution.
Combined with all the other topical agenda items (that will include the latest on the Brabners searches VAT decision, the NHBC implementation of the Insurance Distribution Directive and the Land Registry’s digital strategy) the 2017 Conference is the most topical yet.
There will also be an informal dinner following the conference, at the iPro Stadium.
The event is free to all SLC members or £100 for non-members. To book, or for further details, please either email [email protected] or call 08714 237193.

Society of Licensed Conveyancers

The Society of Licensed Conveyancers (SLC) is the professional body that represents the Licensed Conveyancer profession. It exists to serve the interests of its members working constructively with the Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) as well as other stakeholders such as Government Departments, industry representative bodies, consumer organisations and the media; national, local and trade.

The Society has existed from the time the Licensed Conveyancer profession was established by Act of Parliament in the 1980s and has delivered many important and valuable services to members over the years.

The SLC is focused on six key objectives:

1. Helping members to face the future with confidence

2. Providing a viable proposition for members to act on behalf of mortgage lenders as part of their panels (SLC Quality Assured is the SLC’s new solution, which is currently in the final stages of development)

3. Providing information and advice on the opportunities that the new Alternative Business Structures (ABS) provide

4. Helping members to take advantage of technology to compete for the future

5. Providing additional products and services to help members differentiate themselves to their clients and enhance their income streams in the process

6. Give members an enhanced and inclusive professional identity
