The agenda for the Conveyancing Association Conference 2023 has been confirmed. Hosted at the Leonardo Royal Hotel in the heart of the City of London on 7th February, the conference will discuss a range of topics affecting conveyancers in 2023 including regulation, digitisation and consolidation.
Under the title, ‘Change is Coming’, the 2023 Conference will be introduced by CA Non-Executive Chair, Nicky Heathcote and Conference Chair, Eddie Goldsmith, before keynote speaker, Professor Richard Susskind OBE reviews what has been happening in the legal profession over the last few years, and what is in store for the future, in his session entitled, ‘Change is coming or already here?’
Richard specialises in the impact of IT on the law, is an independent adviser to major professional firms and national Governments, as well as being an author of multiple books on the future of legal services.
The rest of the Conference will be made up of a series of panel debates covering the following topics:
- What regulatory issues are coming down the track? As digitisation of conveyancing picks up momentum and we approach an end-to-end conveyancing process, what issues do regulators believe the industry will be facing in the future?
- Consolidation within the conveyancing industry. A number of consolidator representatives will discuss what attracted them to the conveyancing industry and how they see the corporate future shaping up?
- How are lenders gearing up for digital conveyancing? What are lenders doing to facilitate the end-to-end conveyancing process? What plans do they have to embrace digital technology to work with conveyancers?
- What does a future conveyance look like? Innovators in the industry will discuss what role conveyancers will play in the future and how that will impact on the industry?
- 2025-2030 – where are we up to? How will the conveyancing industry fare in the coming years? What is slowing the sector down? What will speed it up? What’s coming down the line and the obstacles to overcome?
Confirmed panellists for the day include: David Grossman (Chief Executive of Simplify), Paul Saunders (Managing Director of Legal Eye), James Bawa (CEO of PEXA), Rob Hosier (Executive Director of inCase), Martin Macduff (Founder of Redbrick Solutions), Margie McCrone (Head of Strategy & Policy at the Legal Services Board), Simon David (CEO of Thomas Legal), Malcolm Smith (Chief Operating Officer at Groundsure) and Sheila Kumar (Chief Executive of the CLC).

Nicky Heathcote, Non-Executive Chair of The Conveyancing Association, said:
“We are now just a few weeks away from our 2023 Annual Conference and we have finalised all our sessions for the day. It is a full agenda consisting of keynote speeches and panel debates, all with ample opportunity for our delegates to take part in the sessions. The overriding theme is to look ahead to what is coming over the horizon and to provide a roadmap for conveyancing firms with regards to how best they can prepare for the inevitable change and how they can thrive in the future.
“We’ve managed to assemble an excellent array of speakers and panel debate participants, who will provide a range of fresh analysis based on their experience of the sector and how it might develop in the years ahead. At the same time, we have Professor Richard Susskind returning to give his own update on what has changed in the years since he last attended the Conference, and where those developments take us next.
“It promises to be an excellent Conference and we are hoping that as many CA member firms and employees will be able to attend the day itself and our Drinks and Charity Dinner, which this year is in aid of The Children’s Society.”
