NEW: Climate change online training module for conveyancers

Legal Eye and Groundsure have teamed up to bring conveyancers a detailed guide to the key contents of the Law Society’s Guidance Note 2025 on climate change and how to advise clients accordingly.

The guidance brings new responsibilities for conveyancers to discharge their duties properly in line with the guidance and is specific to property transactions as well as being relevant to firms of all size carrying out either commercial or residential conveyancing.

By completing the online module through the Legal Eye Academy on climate change, you will learn:

  • How to advise on climate risks
  • How climate risk searches can assist
  • Physical risks – who should advise?
  • Transitional risks – how are property values impacted?
  • Understand potential liability or legal risks
  • Learn about climate model UKCP18
  • See how to evaluate flood risks.

Catherine Shiers, customer engagement director at Groundsure, said:

“We’re pleased to launch the new Climate Change and Conveyancing module in partnership with Legal Eye, offering practical support to conveyancers in meeting the new expectations set out in the Law Society’s 2025 Practice Note.

“Climate risk is becoming a key consideration in property transactions, and this training ensures that firms, whether handling residential or commercial matters, are equipped to advise clients confidently and competently.

“Through the Legal Eye Academy, users will gain essential knowledge on assessing physical and transitional risks, understanding legal responsibilities, and making best use of climate data and searches in the conveyancing process.”

Legal Eye’s MD Paul Saunders said:

“Climate change, and the impact on risks to property and impact on property values, is an increasingly important topic for conveyancers and their clients. It’s important to understand our obligations as professional advisers and, just as importantly, to appreciate where those obligations begin and end. This module is essential viewing for anyone engaging with clients around property transactions.”
