Senior Industry professionals react to HBSG pledge

Industry leaders comment on the Home Buying and Selling Group’s (HBSG) pledge for all those involved in house buying and selling process.

Since lockdown, the HBSG has been working with the home moving industry to help ensure the home moving market operates as well as it can during Covid-19 and beyond. The HBSG launched ground breaking industry pledge to support home movers in England and Wales last month, so buyers and sellers can help speed up the home buying process to make the most of the stamp duty holiday before it comes to an end next year. This is the latest move that is part of their new industry-wide pledge to get the housing market working again.

Ana Bajri, RICS Associate Director, Residential said:

“When moving home, property professionals know you can only move as fast as the slowest person in the chain of transactions. Buying or selling a property can be stressful at the best of times, and as more people look for new homes to suit their working or family needs, the property industry is keen to work with buyers and sellers to help people move home as quickly, safely and smoothly as possible.

“Moving home requires a lot of investigative work by the property industry. Whether you are selling or buying, estate agents, legal companies, lenders, brokers and surveyors all have to check things like your identity; where the money is coming from to fund the purchase; property condition and whether changes made to the property were properly authorised. All of this takes time to investigate and report on to lenders and others.

“The quicker these processes can be arranged, the smoother it will be for all parties involved.’’

Kate Faulkner, Chair of HBSG said:

“The property market has recovered at a speed and rate that no-one could have expected post lockdown. The industry is working incredibly hard to help people move to a home they love and hopefully in time to save some money on stamp duty. However, to do this, everyone in the home moving process, including buyers and sellers, need to do as much upfront as possible. This pledge is the first in a series of initiatives to try and help reduce the time and stress it takes to move and the chance of a sale falling through. Anyone moving is encouraged to read the pledge, so they understand what to expect from each moving service and what they need to do and when.
