16th Housing Minister Since 2010 is named

Last Monday saw a number of changes in Parliament, and who was Housing Minister was one of those topics of discussion.

Rachel Maclean, MP announced on X (formerly Twitter) that she had been sacked as Housing Minister by the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, by tweeting the following:

“I’ve been asked to step down from my role as Housing Minister. Disappointed and was looking forward to introducing the Renters Reform Bill to Committee tomorrow and later the Leasehold and Freehold Bill. It has been a privilege to hold the position and I wish my successor well.”

This announcement on the Monday came as a bit of a shock to many, as on the Tuesday, Rachel Maclean, MP, was meant to be introducing the Renter’s Reform Bill at committee stage.

A few hours later, and as part of a wider cabinet reshuffle, Lee Rowley, MP was announced as the 16th Housing Minister since the 2010 General Election.

This isn’t the first time Lee Rowley has been Housing Minister, just a year ago Lee Rowley was Housing Minister for 2 months under former Prime Minister, Liz Truss’, cabinet.

Lee Rowley, tweeted:

“Home ownership is the cornerstone of Conservatism – and for building the property-owning democracy that we all want to see.

Delighted to be supporting @MichaelGove on our ambitious long-term plan for housing – and to build more homes in the right places for everyone.

And it’s huge boots to fill in the role – @redditchrachel [Rachel Maclean] is hugely respected across the sector and has been doing amazing things over recent months. Keen to carry on Rachel’s great work.”
