New e-document registration service on track to launch in September

In September 2012 Land Registry will launch a new e-document registration service (e-DRS) on Business Gateway.  This will provide a faster and more cost-effective way to submit and receive applications electronically.
The e-DRS system has been developed as part of the Land Registry’s commitment to improve its services. It will be launched in stages, with roll-out to portal customers planned for winter 2012/13.
Until the launch, the Land Registry are continuing to develop and enhance the solution to ensure that it delivers the benefits for customers and Land Registry.
It is hoped that the electronic submission of applications will reduce average processing times as postage is removed from the process.  It will also lead to a drop in paper consumption.  All applications will be received and responded to electronically, which will create an audit trail.
The service will allow substantive applications and transaction types (form AP1 and scanned versions of accompanying documents) to be submitted by a signed-up organisation with legally qualified supervision.  Applications to register transfers and charges and other common transaction types which affect the whole of a registered title will also be included in the pilot.
