Law firm consolidator Oak Legal Group has acquired Harpenden-based Perrin Myddelton out of administration. The news was shared on social media by Colm McGinley, CEO of the private equity group backing the venture.

Oak Legal Group was launched in July with the acquisition of Hedges Law, backed by CKM3. The business is led by Nicola Poole and Rebecca Kashti, both directors of Hedges Law, and entrepreneur Colm McGinley.

Announcing the acquisition on LinkedIn McGinley, McGinley said Perrin Myddleton would bring “real quality” into the group, with Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners recognition and a Band 1 Social Housing team. The team has “deep expertise across commercial property, property development and company commercial law, plus strong residential conveyancing and dispute resolution practices”, he added.

Perrin Myddleton was placed into administration earlier this week with insolvency specialist Quantuma appointed to handle the business. McGinley said the whole team will join Oak Legal Group and the Perrin Myddelton website has been updated to reflect the firm is now a trading name of Hedges Law.

At launch, Oak Legal Group described its plans to build something fundamentally different in the legal market”. On its website, CKM3 added the investment group was looking for “established firms with strong local reputations, trusted client relationships and talented teams” for which it could provide the “capital, operational support, technology, governance and strategic direction needed to grow sustainably.

Oak Legal states its ambition is to build a multi-brand legal services group: “Preserving the identity and heritage of the firms we invest in, while helping them become more efficient, more scalable and better positioned for long-term success.”
