Monday 30th March

Diary of a High Street Conveyancer – Today is the day!

So today is the day… and I really hope you all know what I am referring to!

History will show the 30th March 2026 to be a truly historic day. But before writing more about this I thought I might look back at some other historic events that happened on the 30th March.

In 1991, there was an attempted assassination of the then US president, Ronald Reagan.

In 1856, there was the signing of the Treaty of Paris which ended the Crimean War .

In 1939, Batman was introduced to the world.

In 2002, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother died

In 2023, Donald Trump became the first former American president to be indicted by a grand jury.

And who was born on this day?

Well, Vincent Van Gogh was born with two ears on this day in 1853. Franz Oppenheimer was born in 1864. Eric Clapton was born on this day in 1945. Piers Morgan was born in 1965.

But some of these events will fade into obscurity in a conveyancer’s memory, as 30th March 2026 will forever be remembered as the day when the TA6 6th edition became compulsory.

It is a much improved form.

However, I am disappointed that even as I look at contract packages today, I see that firms are still using the 4th and 5th editions. There will be firms out there who have not yet used the 6th edition, but this may be because their case management systems have not been updated to allow its use.

This means that despite the form having been introduced last year, it will still take some time for firms to get used to it, whereas there are other firms who have been using it for months and are  used to it.

I like the new form, and I like the explanatory notes. It will be good when it is the standard form on all transactions.

May today live in your memories as TA6 day!
