Connor O’Dell is a licensed conveyancer and was named One to Watch – Conveyancer of the Year at the British Conveyancer Awards 2025. He has almost 10 years’ experience is the sector, and is known for his energy, precision, and unwavering client-first approach. He has a genuine passion for improving the home-moving experience.

What was your career path to your current role?

Having not excelled academically, I never imagined myself pursuing a career in law. Before finding my footing in conveyancing, I spent time working across several industries – from banking to plastering on a building site. It was only when I discovered property law that I found a genuine passion: the variety it offers and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in what is often the most important aspect of someone’s life – the place they call home.

What keeps you motivated in your work?

I’m motivated by the knowledge that what I do has a real, tangible impact on people’s lives. Moving home is often one of the biggest and most emotional milestones someone will experience, and being able to guide clients through that journey, often during moments of stress or uncertainty, drives me to deliver the best possible service.

I also take genuine motivation from personal growth. Having taken a less traditional path into law, I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and that encourages me to keep developing my skills, tackling more complex matters, and continually improving the way I work.

If you could change one thing about the transaction process, what would it be?

The introduction of standardised, upfront information. If key documents, enquiries, and information were gathered earlier and shared more efficiently, many of the avoidable delays we see could be reduced. This would help transactions progress more smoothly, make timescales more predictable, and ultimately create a better experience for everyone involved, especially clients.

Do you think conveyancing will ever be fully digitalised?

I think conveyancing will continue to become more digital, but reaching a point where the entire process is fully digitalised will take time. We are taking steps in the right direction. It is certainly a welcomed development, with a lot of time-consuming and paper-heavy elements of the process disappearing.

What’s the best piece of advice anyone ever gave you regarding your career?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to be completely authentic – showing up as yourself will always bring far more value than trying to conform. Clients value humanity, honesty, and real connection, and embracing that has helped me build stronger relationships and carve out a career that feels genuinely mine.

That same advice is also why, this week, I’ve taken the leap into launching my own consultancy. Stepping into something new is always a risk, but it felt like the natural next step: trusting my ability, backing my experience, and continuing to move forward without compromising who I am.
