Diary of a High Street Conveyancer – Please can you answer the question?

There are so many ways in which enquiries can be asked and answered, but I have to be honest and say there is something incredibly irritating about sending enquiries all nicely numbered and laid out – only to receive replies which mean I have to look back at the original enquiry to understand the response.

And then there are those enquiries which are answered by saying ‘to follow’, or ‘we will ask our clients’, and estate agents are told that the enquiries have been answered. Since when has the reply ‘to follow’ been accepted as a full response to an enquiry?

From a pedantic point of view, the question may have been answered – but the requested information hasn’t been provided, so the enquiry remains unresolved.

And what about when further enquiries are asked with the same numbering, so you potentially have questions answered but you don’t know which questions the answers relate to? And yes, I know there are apps and tech that will deal with the questions and then the answers and give fancy boxes or coloured questions with answers in a different colour – but it makes my brain hurt!

And while I’m being grumpy – stop asking me non-CQS compliant questions. Stop asking me about ‘the plan’ and whether I’ve checked my client’s identity.

When did it all get so difficult?
