It is thought that Asda are making plans for a launch into mortgage lending following their registration of an “Asda Money” trademark.
Asda have neither confirmed nor denied the reports that it will launch into mortgages, simply stating that they “register trademarks all the time”.
If the reports regarding mortgage lending are correct it would be very interesting to know who will manage their conveyancing panel and what the criteria might be.  Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get any comment from Asda on this point nor were they interested in any of my questions.
We are all still, of course, waiting for Tesco to launch the mortgage products following their announcement back in 2010.  The launch was expected last summer but faced delays, reportedly because of FSA red tape, and now expects to launch this year.
