The Government are set to kick-start the construction of new homes with a £45 million cash injection into key community projects.
Announced today by Housing Minister Dominic Raab, the financial boost forms part of the government’s drive to speed up housing delivery, aiming to support 79 projects from Newcastle to Plymouth.
By overcoming the barriers which can impact the usability of land, the Land Release Fund aims to help councils reach their supply target, unlocking enough land for at least 160,000 homes in 2 years time.
As well as setting out to support the growth of communities, the projects include an array of works considered necessary by the government. These include bat alleviation, asbestos removal as well as other which will improve the quality of life.
Commenting on the fund, Housing and Planning Minister Dominic Raab stated: “We are investing £45 million to build roads and provide utilities, so councils can release the land to get up to 7,280 new homes built.
“It’s part of our strategy to build the homes Britain needs, and carry local communities with us.
“We’re determined to make buying or renting more affordable for young families and those on low or middle incomes.”
