Have you implemented mandatory anti-fraud measures?

Time is running out for conveyancing professionals to implement anti-fraud measures introduced by a legal regulator.

Brought in at the start of this year, the aim of the Council for Licensed Conveyancers secure badge scheme is to minimise the risk of firms being impersonated online through the installation of a unique badge. The deadline for installation is tomorrow – 1 November 2017.

Set up on their website, the firm will install a piece of code which the CLC will provide, designed to be impossible for criminals to copy. Clicking on the badge will then take the consumer to the CLC’s website where they will be provided with further information on the firm.

Commenting on the introduction of the measure was Stephen Ward. The Director of Strategy at the CLC stated: “We have been extremely pleased to see that the majority of our firms have taken action to install the badge. To those who are yet to do so, we would urge them to do this as soon as possible to ensure they remain compliant.

“The scheme has been very well received by consumers, providing them with confidence that the website they are visiting is secure and is regulated by the CLC.”
