BCL Legal Conveyancing Survey Hints at Market Improvement

Azara Roger – consultant at BCL Legal – commented: “With all the changes currently happening within PI and Legal Aid, it is difficult to predict how many individuals will move from those areas into conveyancing as confidence continues to increase. The increased number of vacancies we are filling is really exciting for us as specialist recruiters for the conveyancing sector. Current salary levels are relatively static which we expect to remain for a while.”
The BCL Legal report shows the present ranges of salaries for conveyancers in the regions as follows:
Remortgage
~ Remortgage Assistants (no / little experience of conveyancing) – £15k – £17k 
~ Remortgage Fee Earners (able to handle simple remortgage transactions) – £17k – £19k 
~ Senior Remortgage Team Leader (oversees a small team and responsible for signing off work) £20k – £25k
Conveyancers
~ Conveyancing Assistant (experience in remortgage or previously worked in a secretarial capacity) £16k – £18k
~ Junior Conveyancer (sales and purchase, predominantly freehold) – £19k – £22k
~ Conveyancer (leasehold and freehold sales and purchases, some experience of new builds and shared ownerships) – £23k – £28k
~ Senior Conveyancer (experience of shared ownerships, leasehold flats, tenanted properties) – £27k – £34k
~ Conveyancing Team Leader (experienced handling their own caseload whilst overseeing and mentoring junior conveyancers + signing off files) – £30k – £40k 
~ Departmental managers and those with followings £40k+
Salaries in and around London:

~ Departmental managers and those with followings £50k+

Locums working in and around London 

The London private practice team can provide locum conveyancing solicitors with many bookings throughout the months of April to September being arranged now. Bookings are usually for a period of one to two weeks in duration, however, some firms like to block book locums to cover the whole Summer period.
Rates for locum conveyancing solicitors range from £25/hr to £30/hr.
